Potential for Positive Change
The leadership and staff of ABCT acknowledge the potential for positive change as a result of the conviction of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd; we also recognize that much work remains to be done with regards to racial equity. ABCT is a North American mental health organization whose mission statement reflects our commitment to the enhancement of health and well-being by advancing the scientific understanding, assessment, prevention and treatment of human problems through the global application of behavioral, cognitive and biological evidence-based principles. As such, we understand our work needs to address social injustice, tolerance, and acceptance. We encourage our community to continue their research and treatment in the trauma experienced by people of color, and to promote tolerance and awareness of how the choices an individual makes impact others as well as themselves.
ABCT denounces all forms of racism, discrimination, and xenophobia. We further wish to express our solidarity with those who are especially vulnerable, such as the elderly, those with limited English proficiency, and those who are undocumented.
